As Jude entered the first week of his third year, the big highlight of the week was Thanksgiving. We had a lovely dinner with our two neighbor families and as you can see there was a special kids table for the Thanksgiving feast. Above are Max on the left and Carter on the right. As expected Jude didn't eat much - when he is at parties he tends to not eat much at all. His Thanksgiving dinner consisted primarily of crackers that Marcy gave him, his traditional turkey dinner went untouched.
Jude has started saying "What's Jude doing?" on a regular basis. It is pretty funny because of course, he knows what he is doing, I think it is just a way to get attention focused on him. He also asks "what's Mommy doing?" and "what's Daddy doing?" as well, and that seems to be genuine curiosity.
It has been wonderful being at home for the long four day weekend. The only thing we had on was the Thanksgiving dinner, apart from that we have been home most of the time. It has been cold and snowy so our outdoor options were limited. We had a small snowstorm on Friday night, just a couple of inches fell, but it was the first real snowfall of the year and we dressed Jude up and he spent half an hour playing outside in the snow. Marcy built a snowman for him, but he wasn't really interested in it. He was most happy just playing with the snow shovel and trying to get snow into his dump truck.
Jude and I went to the Museum of Nature and Science today. We needed to give Jude a decent outing, and Marcy wanted to go to Target and do some work around our house. So it was just Jude and I, and he had a blast. I told him that we were going to see "the moon and stars" and he got excited. They have a space exhibit there and so we spent some time checking out the moon and stars and Jude learned two new words "planet" and "Mars." We also went and checked out the African exhibit where they had lots of animals that we often see at the zoo. When I was rocking Jude to sleep tonight he kept recounting the things we saw there today. In fact, after he had been in bed for half and hour he called me back in with a very urgent "Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!" call. I wondered what was wrong, but what he wanted was just to keep talking about what we saw at the museum today. It was really cute.
Today we decided to get out our Christmas tree for the season. The last two years we bought a live tree and decorated it, but because this year we will be in Des Moines for Christmas we decided just to get out a small plastic tree that Marcy had in storage. Jude loved it. His his comment was "it's a Jude sized tree!" and he spent a long time just staring at it and touching the lights. I snapped this photo tonight of Jude in his snowflake pajamas in front of our little tree.
